Neil Lennon favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager

Neil Lennon favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager”

Brendan Rodgers is set to become Leicester's new manager after he was given permission by Celtic to speak to the club.

Neil Lennon, meanwhile, will take over from Rodgers at Celtic Park until the end of the season.

Leicester had identified Rodgers as their No 1 target to replace Claude Puel several months ago but there were doubts as to whether the Northern Irishman could be persuaded to leave Celtic in the middle of the season, especially given the Scottish champions are on course to win a third domestic treble in succession.

Although Celtic are currently eight points ahead at the top of the table, you'd have to fancy us now having a real chance of capitalising on this chaos and reining in that lead over the next few weeks. Going to a club that's doing absolutely nothing. "I like Brendan Rodgers, and he'd have to go in and make sure he sorts out the dressing room".

Sutton bemoans the timing, believes Brendan has thrown Peter Lawwell under the bus and the Celtic squad is going to need major surgery come the summer with a new man in charge.

"There could be no let up to just how dominant Celtic are in a domestic sense".

'Brendan has indicated to the Club that this is an opportunity he wishes to investigate further and therefore, very reluctantly, the Club has granted him permission to speak to Leicester City'.

"The bottom line - this absolutely stinks".

Fellow Celtic supporter Rod Stewart shared the same frustrations but also extended a little more sympathy to the tough decision that the manager faced. For us, we just see how that pans out really.

"But I would still argue that in terms of clubs, Leicester are nowhere near Celtic". Lennon had also been linked with the Leicester job on an interim basis. "Hopefully Scott Brown will step up now and take command".
