Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino accepts FA charge, apologises to referee”

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he will accept his Football Association (FA) charge for improper conduct following an extraordinary rant at Mike Dean.

While offering no insight into what Dean said during the altercation, the Argentine accepted the charges and recognised his mistake.

"You need to show you are fighting for big things and I am frustrated because we didn't show the same energy as Burnley, the same attitude as Burnley, the same ambition as Burnley".

"My worry is what happened and to change that is not only five years work", Pochettino said.

"My behaviour was public and now I want to apologise in a public way". "I think that is the most important, we need to accept that we are with our emotion. All that happened on the pitch, I'll never translate off it". I think you, the players and everyone thinks the same.

"Only I am capable of being happy if we beat Chelsea tomorrow because I still feel pain from the defeat against Burnley, it's impossible to put out that feeling".

Dean was scheduled to be at Chelsea v Tottenham as fourth official on Wednesday but instead he will be at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City v West Ham United.

'That doesn't mean that in my mind that I still believe I am not right, but the way I behave I am not right and I wanted to apologise'. "When you're competing, when you're on the pitch, when your heart-rate is so high, you need to be careful how you take the words".

"It's not important, I don't take it personally".

"For me, he's one of the best referees".

Pochettino also insisted his players must be capable of showing the defeat at Turf Moor was a one-off incident by proving they are capable of beating Chelsea in the next game.

Tottenham continue to be without the injured Dele Alli, who scored twice when Spurs triumphed 3-1 on their last visit to Stamford Bridge last season.
