New Study Finds No Link Between MMR Vaccine, Autism

New Study Finds No Link Between MMR Vaccine, Autism”

But there was no overall increased risk for the developmental disorder among those who received the MMR vaccine when compared with those who had not gotten the vaccine, the researchers found. Will a new study from Denmark - one involving hundreds of thousands of subjects - finally convince the skeptics and activists?

Every scientifically sound study of the subject published in the subsequent 20 years has confirmed that there is no connection between vaccine use and rates of autism.

Just a five percent reduction in vaccination coverage can triple measles cases in the community, researchers note.

Seventeen years after a significant study examined the relationship between the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, or MMR, and autism, researchers have again determined that children who receive the vaccines are not at a higher risk of developing autism.

Yet, many parents still fear vaccinating their children against these preventable diseases, and it is creating big risks.

"The study strongly supports that MMR vaccination does not increase the risk for autism, does not trigger autism in susceptible children and is not associated with clustering of autism cases after vaccination", authors said in the journal.

Gary Freed, professor of health management and policy at the University of MI, expressed similar thoughts.

Boys were four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls, the study found.

The study released Monday looked at Danish children born between 1999 and 2010 and tracked vaccination status, autism diagnoses, sibling history of autism and other risk factors, reported The Washington Post. They followed kids from age one through the end of August 2013. There was no random selection involved, no blind sample for comparison; Wakefield specifically selected the twelve in order to show stronger correlation between the two.

Another drawback is the potential for some kids to have undiagnosed autism before getting the MMR vaccine, which could make the MMR vaccine appear linked to autism when it really isn't connected, the study authors note. Yet people continue to resist vaccinations. The first shows Sen.

Other researchers agree the study provides powerful new evidence supporting the safety of the vaccine. The second is the testimony of the young man who broke away from his parents' control to escape the anti-vaxx movement, followed by an ABC News profile of Lindenberger and his family. Some children won't be, and it's all on Wakefield's head.
