Chelsea appeal against transfer ban

Chelsea appeal against transfer ban”

The Londoners were found guilty of breaching rules on signing overseas players under the age of 18.

Federation Internationale de Football Association had initially handed the Blues the two window transfer ban after a three year investigation revealed 29 cases in which the club had breached the rules, relating to the transfer of players under the age of 18.

The club argued that numerous individual cases highlighted involved players on short-term trials who were not signed, and ultimately FIFA's judgement related to alleged breaches regarding only 29 players.

Federation Internationale de Football Association has confirmed it has received Chelsea's appeal against their transfer ban, though no decision has been taken on freezing the sanction during the legal process.

However, no decision has been taken on freezing the sanction while the legal process is ongoing.

Chelsea was punished last month after FIFA's disciplinary committee judged that rules protecting minors were violated in 29 cases.

FIFA also found the Football Association in breach of its transfer regulations, fining it £390,000 and giving it "a period of six months to address the situation concerning the worldwide transfer and first registration of minors in football".

Chelsea have transfer-ban previous. However, the ban was thrown out by CAS when Chelsea agreed to pay training costs and £800,000 in compensation to the French club.

Barcelona and Atletico unsuccessfully contested their two-window ban, while Real Madrid's penalty was reduced on appeal to one January window which had little impact. The appeal was eventually thrown out, with Barcelona serving the ban in 2015.

However, if the transfer ban is lifted during Chelsea'a appeal, then it would possibly allow the London based outfit to make signings this summer, which would in turn make it easier for the club to sign a new coach if (as expected) they dispense with the services of under-pressure Maurizio Sarri.
