Chicago police looking for source of leaks in Smollett case”

In other news involving the case, dozens of staffers were also fired from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for accessing Jussie's medical records without permission.

Jussie Smollett, pictured leaving county jail last week, maintains he is innocent and claims he was attacked by homophobic, racist assailants who shouted: 'This is MAGA country!'

Smollett had gotten into hot water back on January 29, when he'd been rushed to Northwestern Hospital for treatment of wounds.

He had some scratches and bruising on his face and also claimed to have bruises on his ribs.

Smollett's claims had drawn so much sympathy from celebrities and the internet-with Smollett even sitting down for an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts to retell his alleged attack story...

Edward Wodnicki, chief of detectives for CPD's Area Central, started the probe after disorderly conduct charges were filed against the actor in February after a almost month-long investigation that began when Smollett reported he had been attacked by two men in Streeterville early on January 29 who beat Smollett and shouted racial and homophobic slurs, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Jussie Smollett has plead not guilty to filing a false police report, and remains free on bond.

The social media and offline hype around the Smollett story naturally filled the talk waves of Chicago and the world-and now reports are saying that Northwestern Hospital's own staff might have gotten carried away. She said she never accessed the actor's chart, but simply scrolled past it when looking for another patient's name. Apparently, last Tuesday, she was called in at the end of her shift, was sacked on the spot, and was escorted out of the hospital. No explanation was asked from her either.

The actor continues to maintain that he is innocent.

This nurse who was sacked plans to appeal her case with Northwestern Hospital. She claims that the decision to terminate her employment was sudden as she was not given the chance to explain herself. However, she did concede that she and many other nurses and hospital employees were fired last week due to allegations of misconduct concerning Smollett's confidential information.
