Macron proposes European Union reforms, warns against nationalists ahead of May elections

Alexander Gauland, the co-leader of the far-right opposition Alternative for Germany party, charged that Macron's "proposals for a "renewal" of the European Union would ultimately lead to yet more rules and bureaucracy and further limit the sovereignty of member states".

Publishing an open letter in European media outlets on Monday, Macron said that Europe was in danger and that Brexit, the U.K.'s departure from the EU due to take place on March 29, symbolized a "retreat into nationalism".

Calling the Brexit vote a symbol of the "European trap", which he claimed was caused by lies and irresponsibility, the French president wrote, "We can not let nationalists without solutions exploit the people's anger. I see us standing side-by-side with Paris when it comes to reforms for a Europe that is capable of acting and a stable euro", Scholz added.

On these alleged lies and accusations of "fake news", the loyal globalist had specific complaints.

"Who told the British the truth about the post-Brexit future?" he asked. Who spoke to them about losing access to the European market?

He proposed creating a European Agency for the Protection of Democracies "which will provide each Member State with European experts to protect their election process against cyber attacks and manipulation".

"We will need a common border force and a European asylum office, strict control obligations and European solidarity to which each country will contribute under the authority of a European Council for Internal Security", he said.

"He started out in the French election by saying, 'Yes vote for me I will give everyone everything, not a problem.' Well look at France now", said Lundgren, who's a member of the populist political party Sweden Democrats.

The 1,600-word essay contained a range of ideas from Mr Macron, including a specialist agency to protect EU nations from foreign election meddling, a common border force and European asylum system, as well as a new treaty on defence.

The letter is addressed directly to the citizens of Europe, and Macron writes that his proposals would lead to a "European renaissance".

"Macron has been trying for nearly a year to transfer the momentum that brought him to the Élysée Palace in France, to Europe", the paper said.

Speaking Tuesday after his column went out to publications in the 28 European Union nations, Macron said he believes Europe is "dying from those who, in a way, have renounced maintaining this desire of Europe".

Also featuring is senior National Rally (formerly Front National) candidate Jordan Bardella who said of Macron's globalist rant: "Macron is all alone on the European stage".

He added that the European countries "don't have any other choice than joining forces" if they "don't want to depend tomorrow on intelligence gleaned by the United States, China or Russian Federation".
