Study pays $19000 to spend 60 days lying down

Study pays $19000 to spend 60 days lying down”

It may seem like a dream come true but there is a catch. Two months! That's a lot of Netflix and chill. However, the German Aerospace Center says on its website that the meals are not "extra healthy", and there will sometimes be pancakes or other sweet treats. "Especially in extreme conditions, such as in weightlessness in space, this is a challenge".

When astronauts are in space, the weightlessness caused by microgravity changes their body.

The prolonged bed rest is part of a study that launched this week into the effects of weightlessness on the human body.

During the 89-day stay in Germany, volunteers would spend 15 days getting familiar with the study, 60 days in bed and then 14 days of rest and rehab.

"These studies are expected to help advance the understanding of how to keep humans safe as we move from lower-Earth orbit missions into deep space exploration", said NASA on its website.

The study, dubbed Agbresa, short for Artificial Gravity Bed Rest - European Space Agency, will look at the potential benefits of artificial gravity on long spaceflights to destinations such as Mars.

Those chosen to participate in the study will be split into groups, but they'll all be in one room.

The study will take place in DLR a medical research facility called the envihab (from the words environment and habitat). Note that you will have to translate the page into English.

To replicate the effects of being in space, the participants will be made to lie with a slight incline and their feet will be elevated above their head and body.

Plus, as this experiment is happening at the German Aerospace Centre in Cologne you need to be able to speak German and be over 18.
