NOPE: The First Poster For Joaquin Phoenix's 'The Joker' Is Bloody Terrifying”

Mostly empty space, we get a very odd view of Phoenix's Joker in full clown-makeup at the bottom of the poster, with what appears to be blood smeared across his face.

The Joker poster is stark, the majority of it consisting of dark empty space, Phoenix staring upward with a few unmistakable splashes of blood marring his face paint.

"Gotham's lost its way", Arthur says as he emerges as the Joker, dressed in a red suit with the trademark clown makeup dancing on the same stairs he once stumbled through.

Like so many comic book movies, Todd Phillips' Joker has been shrouded in mystery.

It has been reported that Joaquin Phoenix's Joker will be the first film under a new DC Films banner due to it taking place outside of the DCEU. The stand-alone movie on Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix in the titular the movie will trace how Arthur Fleck gets disregarded by the society and how he becomes Joker. The way you can't quite tell what is makeup and what is paint in this image is outstanding - and of course Joaquin Phoenix is basically the best living actor working today.

Production wrapped December 17 and editing began last month for the Martin Scorsese-produced movie which also features Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, and Marc Maron. "She told me I had a objective, to bring laughter and joy to the world", says Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur, "Is it just me or is it just getting crazier out there?" Check it out in the player below and let us know what you think in the comments! I can't say I'm disappointed by this decision.

Joker springs out of the box October 4 in the United States and UK, and October 3 in Australia.
