Colorado Avalanche: 4 Keys to Beating the Flames in Round 1

Colorado Avalanche: 4 Keys to Beating the Flames in Round 1”

Calgary Flames James Neal battles against Mark Jankowski and Dalton Prout during practice getting ready for the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. I remember laughing at the older guys when I was 24, 25, saying, "Yah, right, I'll be here forever.' Now I'm 37 and trying to tell the younger guys that".

David Rittich and Mike Smith evenly split this season's games, with wildly different results at wildly different times of the year.

"There are no easy games", he said. I think I've seen how tough it is to get in.

"I didn't miss too much time", he said. Most of the guys played their first games past year.

In an ideal world, maybe the Calgary Flames would never have needed to earn a reputation for being really, really good at coming back and winning games.

"It's great to have that kind of ... mindset knowing you can go into a third period down a goal (or) down two goals and come back and win games", said Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau. Their goaltending has been a hot-button conversation topic all year and has been at the forefront of hockey talk heading into the post-season.

"I don't know if we're inexperienced or over-experienced or underdogs or overdogs", said Flames head coach Bill Peters.

When asked directly, Smith said he had not been informed of his job requirements.

Nikita Zadorov was more blunt in his thoughts on Tkachuk, who's also a top forward who had 34 goals and 77 points this season. The 26-year-old deserves a shot because there's only one way to get experience. In the final 11 games of the season, they went 8-1-2 and zipped by the Arizona Coyotes to nab the final wild-card spot. The Golden Knights defeated the Flames 2-1. They're first seed, so we don't have any pressure. Because you don't have any ...

Prior to the 2014-15 season, there were few in the hockey world who picked the Flames to even qualify for the playoffs, let alone beat the Vancouver Canucks in the first round.

"We don't have a lot of it, we're going to go get it collectively as a group".

And while it's been seven years since his last taste with a pile of miles in between, Smith has enough intel to know that each bout - especially the first one - is a slugfest.

"The series isn't won or lost in the first 10 minutes, (but) at the same time, you want to get your feet wet and get into it right away and kind of get in a groove and settle into the game and try to set yourself up for the next 10 minutes". "It seems likes it's always like that". "The first 10 minutes, just keep it simple".

"You can definitely gain some momentum if you win that series".
