Mobile Rebrands Layer3 to TVision, Launches in 8 New Cities”

The service is a rebranded and upgraded version of Layer3 TV, which T-Mobile has been selling in their stores since previous year.

Maybe the real distruptor will come later when T-Mobile launches their pick-and-choose streaming service?

Getting back to Apple TV, T-Mobile announced plans to offer the service on third-party TV platforms.

The service, which will initially be launched in eight United States cities on April 14, is the re-branded and upgraded version of Layer3 TV, the platform it acquired in early 2018.

T-Mobile, which acquired Layer3 TV in January 2018 and is in the process of merging with Sprint, said the newly-branded pay-TV offering will be offered in eight cities starting April 14: Chicago; Dallas-Forth Worth; Los Angeles; New York City; Philadelphia; San Francisco; Washington, DC; and Longmont, Colo., with plans to expand TVision Home to more markets later this year.

"The Un-carrier has already changed wireless for good and today's news brings us one step closer to taking on Big Cable", John Legere, T-Mobile's CEO, said in a statement.

T-Mobile will also charge $10 per connected TV, and that includes the whole-home DVR offered with the plan. "I can't wait to begin un-cabling cable and giving millions the opportunity to cut the cord with Big Cable forever". It'll be about $10 a month cheaper for T-Mobile customers.

At that price, you get 150+ channels, local broadcasts, regional sports, and "more". Any premium packages, like HBO or Showtime, will incur additional expenses.

Not-really-a-deal pricing aside, TVision Home offers 4K, dedicated customer care that supposedly doesn't suck, TV profiles for everyone in the family, a personalized menu system, controls via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, controls over some smart home tech, and access to your favorite apps, like Netflix and YouTube. A companion app for iOS and Android will also be released for viewing on mobile devices.

TVision Home says it will use AI to suss out what viewers watch and want to watch - "TV that learns you" -and make that content easily available through the user interface. As a launch offer billed as "Satellite Freedom", T-Mobile is offering up to United States dollars 500 in the form of a prepaid card to buy DirecTV or Dish Network customers out of their existing TV contract in order to switch to TVision. If we take away the $9.99/month discount that's only available for a limited time, the service costs $100, not too far from the average of $107 that T-Mobile says American households usually pay per month for cable.

No Bill Creep or Exploding Pricing. According to T-Mobile US, 48% of US customers are locked into a contract and face paying hundreds in early termination fees.
