GOP group sorry for email calling Ocasio-Cortez ‘terrorist’

Ref. NG/466F

On April 14, 2019, reports indicated that a Republican group apologized after an email was sent out calling Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist. The email had been distributed under the name of the chairman of the Ohio Federation of College Republicans, and was described at the time as a potential harbinger of the political climate ahead of the 2020 election.

The chairman later distanced himself and the organization from the message, stating that the email was not something he or the group would ever endorse.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to the incident on Twitter, stating that the publication of such messages puts her in danger. She added that whenever similar rhetoric is publicized by conservative groups, it leads to a spike in death threats against her, which are subsequently referred to the Capitol Police.
