Ronaldo helps Juventus to 8th straight title

Ronaldo helps Juventus to 8th straight title”

The five-time Champions League victor - four times with Madrid, once with United - wasn't on the scoresheet today in Juventus' 2-1 win against Fiorentina that secured the Serie A title but he has played a big part in this season's success.

The Portuguese was the creator of what proved to be the victor as he turned back time to show a burst of pace before fizzing in a risky low cross that German Pezzella put into his own goal.

AC Milan's hold on a Champions League spot was in jeopardy following a 1-1 draw at Parma.

That proved to be the decisive goal of the game as Juventus saw out the victory to move into an unassailable 20-point lead over second-placed Napoli with five matches remaining.

It's the first time in Europe's five major leagues - Italy, England, Spain, Germany and France - that a club has won eight straight titles.

"I'm really happy that I have won the Italian title in my first season".

Ronaldo is Juventus' top scorer in the league with 19 goals, although he still Sampdoria's Fabio Quagliarella who has netted 22 league goals.

But Paratici said: "There is no doubt, he will be the future of Juventus".

A Champions League title with Juventus would enable Ronaldo to match another multiple nation and multiple team record - joining Clarence Seedorf as the only players to win the trophy with three different clubs.

Reports circulated out of Italy earlier this week that Ronaldo was "left furious" after losing to Ajax in the quarterfinals of Champions League, and that he was looking for an exit after just one season on a four-year contract at Juventus that runs through 2022.

Ahead of the Italian's club clash with Fiorentina on Saturday, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri squashed rumours that the five-time Ballon d'Or victor would be leaving Juventus this summer.

Chiesa curled a shot against the post as Juventus continued to struggle before Sandro came to the rescue as he got away from the Fiorentina defence to score with a low near-post header from a corner in the 37th minute.

Still, there were more moments of concern for Juventus as Chiesa hit the crossbar two minutes before the break.

But a moment of brilliance from Ronaldo ended Juve's suffering as the Portuguese forward produced a devastating burst of speed to reach the byline and his low cross was turned into his own goal by Fiorentina defender Pezzella.

"Cristiano arrived with great humility and helped us improve - all of us", Chiellini said. It's the second consecutive title for the women's squad. "It meant a lot to me and it means a lot to us as a team".

Juve's total of 35 Serie A titles is almost double the number won by nearest rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan who have 18 apiece. That also saw them relegated and they bounced back at the first attempt.
