Matchmaking: Tennis's Stephens, soccer's Altidore engaged”

2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens announced she is now engaged to USMNT striker and Toronto F.C. star Jozy Altidore.

A true sports power couple is taking the big step.

The duo announced their engagement with a pair of social media posts Monday. "Forever yes", she wrote alongside the sweet pic.

The 29-year-old Altidore, in his fifth season with the Major League Soccer team, signed a three-year contract extension in February that will keep him in Toronto through the 2022 season.

Stephens won the 2017 U.S. Open and was runner-up in the 2018 French Open.

Bursting onto the scene in 2017 as the surprise victor of the US Open, Stephens is now ranked eighth in the world in women's singles.

"She is somebody who gets everything I am going through without having to say anything", Altidore said at the time. They have known each other since childhood.

Congrats to the happy couple! She just kind of gets the mood I'm in, as obviously she lives a very similar kind of life. "She is a successful athlete and I do OK, and we just enjoy our time together when we are together".

Altidore is no stranger to cheering Stephens on from the stands, although he acknowledges it's not easy.
