Morgan Plays Captain's Innings as England beat Pakistan”

Vince's attractive innings ended when he was caught down the legside by Pakistan captain and wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed off Imad Wasim, but Morgan kept the runs coming, taking 14 off three successive balls from medium-pacer Faheem Ashraf.

Eoin Morgan welcomed Twenty20 victory over Pakistan by insisting England's new boys could be on the fast-track to World Cup success.

And, even when Root fell to another Sarfaraz catch, there was no sign of England letting victory slip.

Pakistan had earlier got out of a batting hole - after paceman David Willey almost fell down one.

Babar Azam led the Pakistan batting with 65 - before being run out by Archer - while Haris Sohail added 50 as the pair put on a 103-run partnership for the third wicket.

Dead ball was called by the umpire, and there was a delay to proceedings as Sophia Gardens ground staff had to come out and fix the cover, with another plastic square covered by artificial turf eventually put in place.

Ground staff were able to fix the damage, apparently the result of a pitch box popping up, but Willey was fortunate to escape serious injury.

Choosing to bat first, Pakistan lost opener Fakhar Zaman early on as he was brilliantly caught by Morgan at cover off the bowling of Tom Curran for seven runs.

Archer falls into that category and, after looking at ease against Ireland on his global debut after serving a three-year qualification period, he impressed again.

Debutant Imam-ul-Haq also made seven runs before he was caught behind off the bowling of debutant Jofra Archer.

Pakistan´s Haris Sohail celebrates his half-century (Simon Galloway/PA).

Babar then struck successive sixes off spinner Joe Denly to complete a 31-ball fifty. Babar and Haris then rebuilt the innings with some well-judged aggression, with Haris hitting the first six of the innings off Chris Jordan.

Pakistan´s Babar Azam powered his way to 65 (Simon Galloway/PA).

Morgan saw England home with an unbeaten 57 from 29 balls after Joe Root (47) and James Vince (36) had laid the groundwork for a successful chase.

Asif was run out in the next over after Jordan nearly held a vicious return chance.

Jordan claimed the deserved wicket of Faheem in the final over, but 18 runs came from it as Pakistan posted a total which appeared capable of challenging England.
