First Patents Surface for Dyson Electric Car Planned for 2021

First Patents Surface for Dyson Electric Car Planned for 2021”

The first drafts of Dyson's closely guarded electric auto designs have emerged, showing a vehicle with unusual proportions that could be used off-road. Now we have an idea of what form Dyson's first EV will take. The aim is the vehicle is suitable for both "city and rough terrain". The side profile shows a three-row vehicle that has lower-slung crossover proportions - or a slightly more rakish Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan without the sliding doors. The patents were filed 18 months ago but only published this week.

Dyson first disclosed plans to build an electric auto in 2017, saying it would invest 2 billion pounds ($2.6 billion) on the vehicle and accompanying batteries.

The cars are now expected to launch in 2021, a year behind the original date.

Advances have been made in the aerodynamics, efficiency and vehicle architecture of the auto, he added. The auto would build on Dyson technology used in its other products, such as its own motor and battery types. Last year, the company said it would build a facility in Singapore to develop the vehicle it hopes to introduce by 2021.

Dyson Ltd.'s electric vehicle may have a long wheel base, an interior cabin with reclining seats and an aerodynamic design, according to patents awarded to the company.

Though the vehicle is set to be built in Singapore, much of the research and development is taking place at the firm's headquarters at Hullavington Airfield, Wiltshire, where the development team has been quietly beavering away on the EV for almost three years.

In an email sent to more than 500 staff working on the vehicle, Dyson stressed the need to keep the details of his new product secret. He promised the auto will offer "fundamentally new technologies and make some inventive leaps" and urged employees to keep key details secret.
