Woman shot dead by USA police, seconds after yelling 'I'm pregnant'

Woman shot dead by USA police, seconds after yelling 'I'm pregnant'”

In a Snapchat recording of the shooting, the woman yelled she was pregnant before being shot, however, according to local reports, that claim was not able to be supported by the woman's family.

Around 10:40 p.m. Monday, police say a patrol officer saw a 45-year-old woman he had dealings with before and knew she had warrants. In the video, Turner is heard saying "You're actually harassing me" and "I'm actually walking to my house" before falling to the ground.

The woman grabbed the Taser and tried to use it on the officer, prompting the officer to draw his weapon firing multiple rounds at the woman.

Dorris has said that in addition to this bystander video, there is likely also video from the officer's bodycam. As she is sitting on the pavement, with a lit object in her hand, five shots ring out and she slumps over. Turner is heard yelling "I'm pregnant" as she struggles on the ground as the officers continue to wrestle her standing above her.

In the video, which was shot at night, it is not apparently clear that Turner got hold of the officer's taser.

"It's just sad - very sad - when you see somebody for the past six months walking around", Jennifer Sims said.

"It's unfortunate that somebody takes a tragic incident like this and posts it on social media", Dorris complained, according to KPRC.

It has not been confirmed whether she was pregnant and a post-mortem will be carried out to establish if she was. Turner did not fire the stun gun but it shocked the officer when it struck him, Dorris said.

Witnesses said police administered CPR, but the woman died at the scene. As stated earlier, the officer in question has been put on paid administrative leave, which is also standard protocol, ABC 13 noted. "Our hearts go out to the families of the deceased, as well as our officer". The Harris County District Attorney's Office is assisting in the investigation.

Investigators want to talk to the person who filmed the shooting as they were a witness.

Police haven't released the woman's name or specified what warrants had been issued for her arrest.

"The officer is an 11-year veteran with the Baytown Police Department and as far as I know, this is the first shooting he's been involved in", said Police Lieutenant Steve Dorris. "It's extremely disrespectful to everybody involved but that's the day and age we live in with social media", he said.
