Hyundai, Kia team with Rimac for battery tech

Hyundai, Kia team with Rimac for battery tech”

Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with Rimac Automobili to develop an electric version of its upcoming N Performance mid-engined sports vehicle, along with a high-performance fuel-cell auto. And now there is a new update on the brand getting an investment of 80 million Euros from Hyundai and Kia to co-develop high-performance electric vehicles, that are expected to hit production sometime next year.

The Hyundai Motor Group has investested heavily in hydrogen fuel cell technology alongside its full electric development plans, believing the technology can be a viable alternative to full EVs for low carbon emission vehicles.

Rimac is most famous for building the Rimac Concept One, known at its introduction in 2016 as the world's fastest electric auto.

As a result, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation has chosen it to be the right partner to help them develop electric sports cars. "We look forward to collaborating with Rimac on our road to Clean Mobility".

Executive Vice Chairman Euisun Chung added, "Its startup roots and abundant experience collaborating with automakers combined with technological prowess makes Rimac the ideal partner for us". The first project will be an electric version of Hyundai's mid-engined N sports auto - a project that extends back to 2015, with the RM15 - followed by a high performance fuel cell EV.

Rimac said it hopes its collaboration with Hyundai-Kia will strengthen its position as a Tier-1 electrification components supplier.

Elsewhere, the Hyundai Kona Electric gets a new Blue Link smartphone application which allows drivers to start the auto, unlock the doors, and activate the climate control systems remotely. This technology powerhouse with headquarters on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia, employs more than 500 people today with plans for strong future growth.
