England star Chris Woakes glad World Cup picks not his problem

England star Chris Woakes glad World Cup picks not his problem”

Another one-day worldwide, another England victory with an understrength side as the series against Pakistan finishes 4-0 in their favour.

"Everyone will be looking at their phones", said Woakes following his Headingley haul of five for 54.

With the tournament just around the corner, World Cup fever has hit Sky Sports and punditry duo Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton have selected their 15-man squads ahead of England's 5th ODI against Pakistan at Headingley.

After England posted yet another big total - 351-9 - Woakes claimed three early wickets to reduce Pakistan to 6-3 in three overs before Babar Azam (80 off 83) and captain Sarfraz Ahmed (97 off 80) shared a 146-run partnership to take the visitors to 152-4 in the 27th over.

Azam was dismissed after Rashid and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler combined to run the batsman out at the bowler's end with a clever flick behind his back by Rashid.

The original West Indies schedule was based in Bristol from May 23, with two official ICC Cricket World Cup warm-up matches on May 26 against South Africa and on May 28 versus New Zealand.

James Vince (33) had departed by that stage, caught in the deep off Shaheen Afridi, but the runs were flowing with Jonny Bairstow and Root at the crease. But from 105 for two in the 12th over, Root and Morgan kept up the momentum in a stand of 117.

Though almost replaying Vince's demise first ball, Root crackled with six fours from his first 14 deliveries. Morgan was keener on the aerial route, clearing the rope five times in his 64-ball 76 including one mighty pull on to the Rugby pavilion that will earn a local roofer a few bob in the coming days.

Chris Woakes demolished the Pakistan top order, collecting three wickets in nine balls without conceding a run.

While Buttler looked in decent fettle for a run-a-ball 34, for Moeen, trapped lbw on the backfoot, it represented a second successive duck.

In the fourth ODI between England and Pakistan at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Friday, Shoaib Malik smashed his stumps instead of the balls and was declared hit-wicket.
