Kylie Jenner faces backlash for Handmaid's Tale party Television”

But Kylie Jenner's recent Handmaid's Tale-themed celebration raised a lot of eyebrows online.

Over the weekend, Kylie Jenner and model Sofia Richie threw a party for friend Anastasia Karanikolaou's birthday. In addition to the handmaid costumes (red cloaks and white bonnets), the guests witnessed Gilead flags, catering staff dressed as Marthas and apparently uttered catchphrases like "Praise be".

While videos and photos gained traction on social media, the reality star soon began to face backlash for celebrating a show which highlights serious issues like women's rights violations.

"Kylie Jenner hosting a Handmaid's Tale themed birthday party is actually a ideal analogy for how rich people will be perfectly fine if Roe v. Wade is overturned", one commentator tweeted.

This time, the socialite and so-called "self-made billionaire" has ruffled feathers by transforming her California mansion into the fictional totalitarian Republic of Gilead and throwing a Handmaid's Tale-themed birthday party.

It's unclear whether Jenner was hosting a viewing party for the Season 3 premiere of the show (which aired last Wednesday), or if Stassie, like Jenner, is simply a fan and wanted to dress in cosplay for her birthday.

For the past few weeks, Kylie Jenner was catching all kinds of heat for her Kylie Skin debut since people called her out for not being authentically vegan, using a filter in her tutorials and selling a walnut scrub - something that's big no-no.

Of course, this all raises more questions about treating television shows - ostensibly created for entertainment - as unimpeachable acts of rebellion against a political system which feels rigged against women and oppressed minorities.
