David Ortiz's Wife Finally Breaks Her Silence

David Ortiz's Wife Finally Breaks Her Silence”

Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said at a press conference in Boston on Monday afternoon that doctors "have confirmed that David's condition is still serious" but that he had been stabilized enough to be flown to a Boston hospital for further treatment.

The latest comes from his wife, Tiffany. He first underwent surgery at a hospital in the Dominican Republic, where "Big Papi" was born and raised.

Tiffany Ortiz thanked the Red Sox owner, John Henry, and his wife, Linda, and the team's management for rallying around her husband.

"Lastly, I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and love that we have received during this incredible hard time", her statement reads.

Ortiz played 20 Major League Baseball seasons before retiring at the end of the 2016 season. Asked about Ortiz's qualify of life going forward, Gonzalez replied, "When he overcomes this, the same as before". Two men approached the club on motorcycles, and at least one opened fire and shot Ortiz in the back.

Eliezar Salvador, who was at Dial Bar and Lounge at the time of the shooting, saw Ortiz on the ground and rushed to help him.

The Red Sox arranged to fly him to Boston following an initial surgery in the Dominican Republic to fix damage to his organs. The footage shows people scattering after gunfire erupted and Ortiz, who had been sitting at the outdoor bar, appear to grab his side and then collapse. They also had to remove Ortiz's gallbladder to work on the liver, though the gallbladder itself was not damaged.

ESPN earlier reported that the attacker was identified as 25-year-old Eddy Feliz Garcia.

Garcia suffered a cranium contusion and trauma to his thorax, left knee and right leg, according to the Dominican Republic's National Health Service.

Police have not yet released the identity of the suspected gunman.

According to ESPN Deportes, police have the suspected gunman and the suspected driver of the motorcycle in custody.

He was one of the most productive and popular players in Red Sox history, leading the once struggling franchise to three championships before retiring in 2016 with a career total of 541 home runs-the 17th-most in baseball history.

There were few bigger personalities in the game when Ortiz was in his prime, and perhaps nobody more beloved.

"He's on the Mount Rushmore of Boston sports", said Eddie Romero, the team's assistant general manager.
