Musk touting Tesla with over 650km range in the near future

Musk touting Tesla with over 650km range in the near future”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is assuring the company's shareholders that the electric auto maker is on pace to set manufacturing and sales records during its current quarter after a disappointing start this year.

Mr Musk also reiterated plans to establish a network of self-driving cars, telling shareholders that their cars would be able to take them "from the garage to your parking space at work without intervention" later this year using the company's Autopilot system.

One of the shareholders asked whether an aquatic vehicle was in the pipeline, and Musk confirmed that plans existed, but that they weren't really a priority amongst Tesla's current production targets. "Sales have far exceeded production and production has been pretty good".

Musk said the company was hoping to unveil its electric pickup truck this summer, and get into semi truck production toward the end of next year. Currently Tesla's Long Range Model S Sedan has the longest real world range of around 600km according to Australian publication, The Driven.

Newly manufactured Tesla vehicles are shown parked in a large lot next to the airport in Burbank, California, U.S. August 24, 2018.

Finally, in response to one of the last questions of the evening, Elon confirmed the company does have a design for a "submarine auto", that could turn up as a show auto at some point, even though the market for such a vehicle would be "small but enthusiastic".

Of the 31 analysts who cover the stock, only 12 now recommend buying Tesla shares, while another 12 have a "sell" rating.
