David Ortiz's Wife Offers Update On His Condition After Shooting

Five people are now under arrest in the Dominican Republic in connection with the shooting of former Red Sox star David Ortiz, CBS's WBZ-TV reports.

A designated hitter and first baseman, Ortiz helped Boston win a first World Series title in 86 years in 2004 before further triumphs in 2007 and 2013.

The Boston Red Sox released a statement on behalf of the 43-year-old's wife Tiffany. "My family and I again want to thank everyone for their endless love and well wishes, and still ask for privacy while David continues to heal".

"David arrived at Massachusetts General Hospital last night and underwent a successful second surgery. He's a fan of David's", the attorney, Deivi Solano, said Tuesday. He has undergone two surgeries - one in the Dominican Republic in the immediate aftermath of the attack, the other at Mass General on Monday night - to remove his gallbladder and part of his intestines and fix his liver. The suspected gunman is reportedly among the people taken into custody.

"In one of the videos it was possible to observe both the accused and the shooter planning the commission of the incident right on Octavio Mejía Ricard Street, which is parallel to the place where the event took place", prosecutors said.

Spokeswoman Julieta Tejeda reported the arrest to a group of journalists via WhatsApp on Tuesday night.

The other suspects, authorities said, were parked nearby in a pair of Hyundai automobiles at the time of the attack. Dominican prosecutors identified one of the four as Oliver Moises Mirabal Acosta, according to court documents obtained by the Associated Press.

Dominican authorities said Ramon Martinez Perez, known by the alias "Rolfie", was detained and being questioned, according to NBC.
