Doctor finds 100 bubble tea pearls in girl's abdomen

Doctor finds 100 bubble tea pearls in girl's abdomen”

Researchers believe drinking beverages that are too hot can lead to 'thermal injury, ' which, in turn, could increase the chances of developing esophageal cancer later on.

A 14-year-old girl in China who was constipated for almost a week had an abdominal blockage caused by undigested bubble tea pearls, according to reports. Most people would either recommend eating bubble tea pearls by the pound or are completely weirded out by their chewy texture.

While the girl insisted she had only drunk one bubble tea a week ago, Doctor Zhang Louzhen, who treated the teenager said she must have consumed lots of the pearls to cause such a build up - and that she may be hiding her bubble tea habit from her parents.

In addition to suffering from constipation, the girl, who was not identified, also reportedly complained that she lacked an appetite and had stomach aches, according to the publication, which cited local Chinese media. But eventually, she allegedly admitted she drank one cup of the tea before she was hospitalized.

According to reports, the girl told her parents that she only drank one bubble tea drink five days before she was taken to the hospital. She claimed she'd had just one before checking in to the hospital, but doctors said it had to have taken much more to end up in her state, the paper reported.

The pearls in the drink are made of a tapioca starch, "which is not easy to digest".
