Ford recalls over 1.3M vehicles for suspension, transmission issues

Ford recalls over 1.3M vehicles for suspension, transmission issues”

Vehicles that are exposed to frequent full rear suspension articulation (jounce and rebound) may experience a fractured rear suspension toe link.

And in February, Ford recalled almost 1.5 million pickup trucks in North America because the transmissions can suddenly downshift into first gear.

Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant from May 7, 2012 to October 27, 2013, and the Kansas City Assembly Plant, April 18, 2012 to November 18, 2013.

"Dealers will remove and replace left and right-hand rear suspension toe links with a new forged toe link and align the rear suspension", Ford said.

The model most affected by the series of recalls are Ford Explorer SUVs that were made between 2011 and 2017 due to an issue with suspension toe link fractures, which can diminish steering control, the company announced Wednesday.

Ford is also recalling 123,000 2013 F-150 pickups for a second time for a fix to stop transmissions from unintentionally downshifting into first gear. Vehicles that have not had 19S07 performed are not affected by this action and will receive updated software under the existing 19S07 program.

The automaker is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue - the affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant and the Kansas City Assembly Plant.

Affected vehicles were built at Dearborn Assembly Plant, May 7, 2012 to October 27, 2013, and Kansas City Assembly Plant, April 18, 2012 to November 18, 2013. Those trucks have a calibration issue in the transmission and have already been recalled before to reprogram software in the powertrain control module.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call Ford customer service at 866-436-7332.

The new action, says Ford, is for F-150s equipped with 5-liter and 6.2-liter gas engines. The concerns, in this case, are with a weld in the clutch that could fail and prevent them from moving. Those recalls include vans that have a school bus or ambulance prep package. Affected vehicles were built at Ohio Assembly Plant, May 11, 2009 to December 10, 2015.

The company will also replace the coast clutch cylinder and the single-engaging coast one-way clutch for the 5.4-liter engine for loss of motive power issue.

If you plug your car's 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA's website and a recall doesn't appear, it means your vehicle doesn't now have any recalls.

The recall will affect about 1.2 million vehicles in the US, 28,000 in Canada and one SUV in Mexico. A defect could cause a portion of the rear suspension to fracture and make it harder for the driver to steer.

Ford said the problem increases the risk of a crash.

This action affects approximately 12,000 vehicles in Canada.
