Bryan Singer Paying $150,000 to Settle Rape Allegation

Bryan Singer Paying $150,000 to Settle Rape Allegation”

Director Bryan Singer has agreed to an out-of-court settlement with a man who accused the film-maker of raping him as a teenager.

Singer, 53, continues to deny all the allegations and his attorney said in a statement Wednesday that the decision to settle the lawsuit filed by Sanchez-Guzman two years ago 'was purely a business one, ' according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sanchez-Guzman, who had previously filed for bankruptcy in 2014, had his case reopened in 2018 by a bankruptcy trustee, who argued that his claim against the X-Men director had not been originally listed among his assets, and that any proceeds from the case should be made available to his creditors, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Cesar Sanchez-Guzman sued Singer in 2017, alleging that the "Bohemian Rhapsody" director raped him in 2003, when he was 17. Sanchez-Guzman's lawsuit arrived just after Singer was sacked.

Singer has always denied the allegations against him. The trustee noted that it would be enough money to pay off the $61,000 in claims against Sanchez-Guzman, pay the costs of administering the case and leave money left over for him. In the story, Sanchez-Guzman said Singer told him that nobody would believe him.

"Mr. Singer has denied even knowing this individual, let alone allegedly having interacted with him more than 15 years ago", the attorney at Lavely & Singer, no relation, added. The accuser's attorney says only a nominal amount of the settlement will end up in his client's pocket. In the March 2019 issue of The Atlantic, a profile was published with information from more than 50 sources, including four separate men who have alleged that Singer had sex with them when they were underage and the director was in his 30s.

Singer was sacked from the Oscar-winning movie Bohemian Rhapsody for "unreliable behaviour" amid the allegations.
