David Ortiz was not the intended target, shooting suspect claims”

Ortiz, known as Big Papi, is recovering and in guarded condition at a Boston hospital.

As the search for Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase aka "The Surgeon" continues with the suspect still at large, nine other suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the David Ortiz shooting last Sunday (June 9).

As the search for Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase, 31, intensified, USA authorities said he's also wanted for an attempted homicide in Pennsylvania that had striking similarities to the Sunday night shooting that left Ortiz with a bullet wound to the back. New Jersey prosecutors reportedly said this week that the man still wanted in connection with those robberies is the suspected shooter in the Ortiz shooting, though they did not address the different name spellings.

The Berks County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they have been looking for Rivas-Clase since April of 2018, when he was identified as a suspect involved in the shooting of a man in Reading.

Authorities say the suspects were offered $8,000 to kill Ortiz. Rivas-Clase is the only suspect that has yet to be apprehended.

Similar to Ortiz, that victim ultimately survived a bullet wound to the back, while it's been alleged that Rivas-Clase conspired with another suspect to carry out the shooting. He cautioned that confirmation would have to come through a fingerprint match.

"Just thinking about the fact that this happened to him in the Dominican Republic, it is unimaginable", Nunez said.

Police were called on December 22, 2017, after two men, a 26-year-old Passaic resident and a 41-year-old Clifton man, said they were robbed at gunpoint by a group of people in the area of Lake and Van Winkle avenues in Clifton, authorities said.

In any event, Pennsylvania authorities don't expect to see Rivas-Clase back in Pennsylvania to face trial anytime soon, if ever. Bail was set at $10,000.

In addition to coming awfully close to being one of the greatest tragedies in sports history, Boston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez says the incident was an embarrassment for Dominican ballplayers.

While Ortiz lived in Boston, he visited the Dominican Republic at least six times a year, where he crossed paths with a wide variety of figures from the country's legitimate and illegal business worlds, according to friends.
