Nintendo Starts Production On Two New Switch SKUs In Southeast Asia”

We are expecting both a cheaper, more portable Switch model and a higher-end model to appear at some point in the near future. Nintendo then promptly shuts down those rumors, insisting it has nothing to announce.

The distinction that one new console will be a powerful, souped-up version of the original Nintendo Switch, and the other an even more budget-friendly model with a reduced feature set (potentially ditching the docked concept, and including permanently attached Joy-Con controllers), continues through the latest bout of rumours. The site says that one of the new Nintendo Switch systems is a beefed up version while the other is "a less-expensive model with a new look".

Nintendo has moved some of their manufacturing for the Nintendo Switch console outside of China to Southeast Asia, according to Wall Street Journal sources from the videogame company's supply chain. That's an indication that Nintendo will introduce them soon, although no timeframe was given in the report.

During Nintendo's E3 Direct, we got a release date and news of a new mode where you can build your own dungeons, which sounds great. Nintendo wants to avoid having to pay a possible 25% tariff to import the consoles in the U.S., in which case it would end up selling the Switch at a loss in the country. The original Breath of the Wild took five years to create and this time, the developers are reportedly taking inspiration from Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2. Sony's PS5, we'll add, is expected to drop around the same time.
