Senegal sweep Tanzania aside in mismatch

Senegal sweep Tanzania aside in mismatch”

Recent Form Aliou Cisse men have not lost a single game since losing to Colombia at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation as they are unbeaten in their last seven matches and they have won each of the last six whilst keeping a clean sheet in five of those matches. "But we know our strengths and we are genuine challengers", said Cisse, whose side is the highest-ranked in Africa, at 22 in the world.

Powerful Senegal will launch their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Tanzania in Cairo Sunday without Liverpool star Sadio Mane, but coach Aliou Cisse is unconcerned.

Cisse was part of the Senegal squad that finished runner-up at the 2002 Afcon and sees his 22nd-ranked side take on Tanzania, who sit 131st in the Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings, at 30 June Stadium.

Senegal will miss their star man Sadio Mane through suspension but in Kalidou Coulibaly, Mbaye Niang and Keita Balde, they still have players to hurt any opponent. "To get to the semi-finals would be expected from this team".

Tanzania coach Emmanuel Amunike has promised that the team that will turn out on Sunday from 7pm to play Senegal in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group C opening match at the 20 June Stadium in Cairo will be very different team from the one of 2015.

"His absence should not in any way bother us", he added.

"We are challengers. The favourites are the teams that have won this tournament in the past".

"We would have preferred to have him playing".

"When you go into such a tournament, you must get a positive result to be assured of doing well and that is what we will target against Senegal".

"Do not be surprised if you see some of these so-called big teams packing their bags early and heading home". Konate only scored seven times for his club side last season, but his record of 10 goals in 17 appearances for his country suggests he is at home on the worldwide stage.

Kenya are back at the Cup of Nations after a 15-year absence.

Kenya will face Algeria in the second match of the group from 11pm. - Tanzania are making their second appearance at the AFCON, 39 years after their first in 1980, the longest gap between two appearances in the history of the tournament.
