Eto'o - 'Barcelona would be better fit for Salah'

However, there have been reports that Salah's future could lie away from Merseyside.

Former Chelsea and Everton forward Samuel Eto'o has urged Mohamed Salah to leave Liverpool and join Barcelona.

The Egyptian hammered home 44 goals in his debut season at Anfield while setting a new record of 32 Premier League goals in a single campaign.

Salah experienced an uncharacteristic goal drought last season before recovering and scoring in the Champions League final against Tottenham.

"Barcelona would be a better fit".

Eto'o, who was taken on as youth player by Real and made three appearances for Los Blancos, added: "If he has the chance to play in the best league of the world, which is the Spanish one, he has to sign for Barcelona". Additionally, the club is always among the favourites to win the Champions league and most importantly, Salah will have the guidance of arguably world's best player Lionel Messi.

He and strike partner Sadio Mane have both attracted plenty of interest having flourished under Jurgen Klopp. "That will happen again now with Salah and Mane".

"Their heads were turned when Barcelona wanted them".

Liverpool though are hoping several additions and retaining their top performers can see them overhaul the solitary point that City beat them by.

Eto'o was critical of the host nation's lack of cohesion in attack and felt they overburdened star player Mohamed Salah.

On the other hand, Salah himself would not prefer to leave Liverpool for Barcelona, as the Catalan giants doesn't seem to be on a right path and could degrade once all the key players leave soon.
