US Hits Iran with Cyberattack, Launches New Sanctions to Cripple Iran's Economy

US Hits Iran with Cyberattack, Launches New Sanctions to Cripple Iran's Economy”

"No one has granted them a hunting license in the Middle East", U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Sunday during a visit to Israel. Bolton said Iran should not "mistake USA prudence and discretion for weakness" after Trump called off the military strike.

Tehran says the drone violated Iranian airspace and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has backed the claim with maps and coordinates - allegations dismissed by Washington.

Tension is running high between longtime foes Iran and the United States after U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said he called off a military strike to retaliate for Iran's downing of a U.S. drone.

But even as Pompeo delivered his tough talk, he echoed President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in saying the United States is prepared to negotiate with Iran, without preconditions, in a bid to ease tensions.

"Neither Iran nor any other hostile actor should mistake United States prudence and discretion for weakness", Bolton said in Jerusalem.

US Cyber Command targeted the Iran military's computer systems used to control some of the country's rocket and missile launchers.

USA media said the attacks crippled computers used to control missile launchers and a spying group tracking ships in the Gulf.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the situation was "extremely serious" and he spoke to Iran officials "regularly".

As part of the spike in tensions, the U.S. has beefed up its military presence in the Middle East and blamed Iran for attacks on oil tankers on the Gulf of Oman.

Meanwhile, the Riyadh-led military coalition in Yemen said Iran-aligned Houthi rebels had attacked a civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia, killing one civilian and wounding seven others.

Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons and refers to a fatwa or religious decree issued in the early 2000s by Iran's top authority Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that bans the development or use of nuclear weapons.

"This operation imposes costs on the growing Iranian cyber threat, but also serves to defend the United States Navy and shipping operations in the Strait of Hormuz", said Thomas Bossert, a former senior White House cyber official in the Trump administration, according to the Post.

"When they agree to that, they're going to have a wealthy country".

"It would be a positive steps if they put resources in (the planned European trade mechanism) Instex and.make trade possible", Mr. Kharazi said.

Those tensions have been mounting since Trump previous year withdrew the U.S. from a global nuclear deal with Iran and began pressuring Tehran with economic sanctions.

"Otherwise you're gonna have a bad economy for the next three years".

Bolton went on to quote Trump, who over the weekend reiterated that Iran will "never" be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon, saying that the U.S. military "is rebuilt, new and ready to go", and that US-imposed economic sanctions "are biting".

"I look forward to the day that Sanctions come off Iran, and they become a productive and prosperous nation again - The sooner the better!" "You can absolutely expect the regime to be leveraging every tool they have available to reduce the uncertainty about what's going to happen next, about what the U.S.'s next move will be".
