Trump subreddit r/The_Donald quarantined by Reddit for inciting violence

Trump subreddit r/The_Donald quarantined by Reddit for inciting violence”

Reddit mascots are displayed at the company's headquarters in San Francisco, California April 15, 2014.

The quarantine won't completely ban the forum, but it will hide the community behind a warning where viewers have to affirm that they are sure they want to view the content.

Popular threads on the subreddit on Wednesday, besides news of the quarantine, included a photo with a disparaging message of USA soccer star Megan Rapinoe, whom Trump had criticized for refusing to visit the White House, a message celebrating Fox News' ratings and a post attempting to undermine E. Jean Carroll, the author who recently claimed Trump sexually assaulted her. And Trump himself answered questions in the community group, known on Reddit as an AMA, or "ask me anything", when he was the Republican nominee for president in 2016.

Officials from Reddit said the questionable behavior included "encouragement of violence towards police officers and public officials in OR". The note was later deleted from the subreddit.

"It is restricted due to significant issues with reporting and addressing violations of the Reddit Content Policy", the message reads.

The statement is referring to the 11 Republican state senators who fled OR to avoid voting on a major climate change bill.

Members of the subreddit responded angrily to the move, with some accusing the platform of bias against conservatives.

In an interview earlier Wednesday, Trump accused Twitter of censoring him, alleging the social media platform was making it hard for him to get his message out. He repeated those complaints on the Fox Business Network on Wednesday, adding that tech companies Alphabet Inc's Google and Facebook Inc should be sued.

Reddit placed a pro-Trump subreddit threat r/The_Donald under quarantine after users reportedly - and repeatedly - threatened and incited violence.

Trump's comments came on the same day that the White House also announced that it would host a social media summit on July 11 with digital leaders. "Absolutely not. A community of over 700,000 Patriots. suddenly silenced..." "So they began looking for any reason to quarantine us", a moderator of the forum tweeted.

Reddit outlines its quarantine policies on a page that says such action is taken when there are communities "that, while not prohibited, average redditors may nevertheless find highly offensive or upsetting". Popular knitting and crocheting site Ravelry this week banned pro-Trump views on its site.
