Spider-Man: Far From Home Almost Introduced Falcon as Captain America

Spider-Man: Far From Home Almost Introduced Falcon as Captain America”

In his appearances so far-Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Captain America: Civil War, and his first solo outing, Spider-Man: Homecoming-he's been established as the kid who needs guidance.

Anthony Mackie, who portrays Sam Wilson/Falcon/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealed in a recent profile in Men's Health that his original contract was for a whopping ten pictures - and that wasn't the only interesting tidbit the star dropped about his MCU journey. He starred alongside his Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner and blew everyone away with his heart-felt performance as J.T. Sanborn.

"I put everything in that movie", Mackie said. We try to protect ourselves and say, 'I'm doing the work for the work.' But when that happened with 'Hurt Locker, ' it hurt.

It turns out though that handing the shield over to Mackie's character instead wasn't a last minute decision as the actor has revealed in a recent interview with Men's Health that he had actually initially signed for 10 movies.

Anthony Mackie made a decision to approach Marvel Studios for a role in its superhero films after he was snubbed of an Oscar nomination for The Hurt Locker. According to Mackie, it was "very, very therapeutic".

The actor's star had been on the rise since his appearance in Kathryn Bigelow's 2009 Best Picture victor The Hurt Locker, but a series of major life events - including the birth of his son and the death of his father - prompted him to take some time off from acting.

"You go through so many iterations of this story and like so many brainstorm sessions that I don't even remember that conversation", Watts explained.

To be honest, that's fairly accurate. "Because they saw how bad I was, and how much fear was on my face".

That landed him an audition for the role of Iron Man 3's villainous Mandarin, ultimately portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley, and he was eventually chosen to play Falcon, making his debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, his screen test led to a lunch with Marvel's creative brokers, which included Joe Russo and producer Nate Moore, who lauded him for his "ability to convey integrity" and for the "level of trust between him and the audience". "He stood on who he was", he said.
