Malcolm Brogdon #13 of the Milwaukee Bucks shoots the ball against the Dallas Mavericks on January 21, 2019 at the Fiserv Forum Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee Bucks will waive George Hill, freeing the veteran guard to be an unrestricted free agent, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel confirmed the news some minutes later. They selected him when every other team passed on him three years ago.

"Meanwhile, the Bucks have not totally closed the door on George Hill, sources said".

Hill had one year and $18 million remaining on his contract, but only $1 million of that is guaranteed before July 2. But the two sides have an interest in working something out to have Hill return.

Teams will prod Milwaukee with tempting offers to Brogdon, hoping to test the limits to what they're willing to match for his services.

Hill was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers early in the season and came on strong in the playoffs, when the Bucks advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals despite the absence of an injured Brogdon.

But the Bucks, who already signed Eric Bledsoe to a $70 million extension in March, also must retain free agents Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez.
