Thousands of Apple MacBook Pros recalled due to fire hazard”

Health Canada says the battery can overheat, which poses a possible fire hazard.

Some Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops are being recalled.

We don't know exactly how many notebooks are involved in the recall, but it's every 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro from the series that debuted in mid-2015.

The recall involves laptop computers with a 15.4-inch diagonal screen, 2.2-2.5 GHz processors, 2256GB-1TB solid state storage, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports and one HDMI port.

The news release states that 26,000 of the defective computers were sold in Canada and approximately 432,000 were sold in the U.S. This amounts to 458,000 machines subject to recall.

Apple has received 26 reports of the laptop's battery overheating. There are five reports of minor burns and one report of smoke inhalation.

As of June 4, Apple said it's received one report of a consumer incident in the US but there are no reports of injuries in Canada.

Apple issued a similar replacement programme previous year for the latest 13-inch Pros over issues related to battery expansion.

Apple often announces voluntary replacements for defective products, usually after customer complaints have built up (look at what's happened with the keyboards on most of its modern laptops), but rarely mandatory recalls.

"The serial number can be found on the underside of the laptop computer or by opting for "About This Mac" from the Apple menu", according to the company.
