Women Now Among BBC's Top 10 Best Paid Presenters”

BBC Radio Two breakfast presenter Chris Evans, who left in December to join a commercial radio station, earned between £1.25 million and £1.255 million, and chatshow host and radio broadcaster Graham Norton was third on £610,000-£614,999.

Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Greg James is on £225,000-£229,999 with evening presenter Annie Mac earning between £180,000-£184,999 per year.

The total number of celebrities earning more than £150,000 has gone up to 75 from 64 past year.

Lord Hall said the total bill for top talent had risen by £10 million (NZ$18 million) but was now a smaller proportion of total costs.

Defending Lineker's salary and asked if the BBC would ask the sports pundit to take a pay cut next year, Lord Hall said: "Every time contracts come up we look at them, we negotiate hard with people but Gary does do an excellent job".

The BBC's chairman David Clementi said he had "seen no evidence we are paying anyone above the market rate", adding, "what I've seen suggests the opposite".

Later that month, six leading male presenters, Huw Edwards, Nicky Campbell, John Humphrys, Jon Sopel, Nick Robinson and Jeremy Vine, accepted pay cuts to help resolve the issue. It dropped from 9.3% in 2017 to 6.7% in the 2018/19 fiscal year.

And they are topped by TV and radio presenter Jason Mohammad who has pocketed a £95,000 increase.

Lauren Laverne and Fiona Bruce both saw their salaries rise by roughly £75,000, while Sophie Raworth was up by around £60,000.

Three women have moved into the BBC's "rich list" of highest paid earners for the first time, one year after the corporation came under fire over its huge gender pay gap.

A total of 11 individuals are in the top 10, due to a tie in 10th place. Sweeping pay reviews were announced, however the issue blew up again in January 2018 when BBC China editor Carrie Gracie resigned from her post after finding out her male counterparts working in the United States and Middle East were paid "at least 50 per cent more". "Who knows, we might reach that state of nirvana at some point in my life".

"How can the BBC justify giving so many sky high salaries?" "Perhaps it would have been better to cut more male salaries rather than to up some female salaries", she said. Amid tough market conditions for the media industry, the BBC also hired more than 1,000 new staff.

The BBC has published its executive salary list today (July 2) as part of the British broadcasters' Group Annual Report and Accounts for 2018/19.

In an article for The Huffington Post, he wrote: "The BBC was rightly criticised for a lack of female representation when we first published details of our highest earning stars two years ago".
