'Game of Thrones' prequel series: Will Starks and Lannisters Appear?”

"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin has released some new details on the state of Westeros in HBO's upcoming prequel of the epic fantasy - a series that so far has been kept under wraps. "It's actually occupied by the Casterlys".

Martin confirms that in the prequel we'll see early generations of families we know, including the Starks, who will "definitely be there". "There are things like direwolves and mammoths".

Weiss are not involved in the prequel series (it's being spearheaded by Jane Goldman) perhaps there's hope? "The Lannisters aren't there yet, but Casterly Rock is certainly there; it's like the Rock of Gibraltar", Martin revealed. While nothing is set in stone, Martin is lobbying for The Long Night. EW.com notes that this doesn't preclude the later introduction of mythic character "Lann the Clever", who conned the House Casterly out of their home and founded House Lannister, but just know, there won't be Starks vs. Lannisters in this version of Westeros. That famous house will not be featuring in the show, and neither will the Starks' major adversaries, the Lannisters.

First, forget the seven kingdoms of Game of Thrones - this world will have a whopping one hundred.

The Game of Thrones prequel series now does not have an air date, though is expected to start filming at some stage this year.

The Casterlys, it seems, will be a part of the sprawling landscape of mini-kingdoms that will exist in the show's time period, long before Westeros became a seven- (and then six-) kingdom empire.

It turns out that the reason for this confusion is very innocent because the third episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 is also titled 'The Long Night'. Thrones' Westeros consisted of seven kingdoms, but "eventually you get back to where there are a hundred kingdoms - petty kingdoms - and that's the era we're talking about here", he said. Asked about this, Martin said the prequel - like Game of Thrones - is more accurately described as an ensemble story. Previous reporters indicated the working title of the show was Bloodmoon, with The Long Night being Martin's preferred title, according to Entertainment Weekly. On the title, Martin noted thatThe Long Night or some variation of that looks likely: "I heard a suggestion that it could be called The Longest Night, which is a variant I wouldn't mind. That would be pretty good".
