Democrats to Subpoena Kushner, Sessions, 10 Other Trump Officials”

House Democrats will vote Thursday to authorize the issuance of subpoenas to a dozen current and former Trump associates, as the party investigates the president for potential obstruction of justice, abuse of power and the administration's immigration policies, the Judiciary Committee revealed Tuesday. David Pecker and Dylan Howard, former top executives of American Media Inc., the parent company of the National Enquirer, who testified to Mueller about alleged hush-money payments Trump made to a woman who had accused him of an extramarital affair, are slated to receive subpoenas, as well, as is Keith Davidson, a lawyer who previously represented the adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Nadler said the panel was open to a "reasonable accommodation" with the witnesses and would "not issue subpoenas if the information we are seeking is voluntarily provided".

"But after I said that, he indicated that he was not interested in testifying, and he held a press conference and issued a press statement making it clear that his testimony really was the report itself and that it wasn't going to go beyond the report", Barr said. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said in a statement.

Republicans will nearly certainly speak out against the subpoenas.

"Beyond what I've said here today and what is contained in our written work, I do not believe it is appropriate for me to speak further about the investigation or to comment on the actions of the Justice Department before Congress", he said. He also cited Justice Department guidelines that say a sitting president can not be indicted. Mueller pointedly said he would have exonerated Trump if he could have.

Barr enthusiastically embraced Trump's political agenda, cast Mueller's report as a vindication for the president and launched an investigation into the origins of the probe - something Trump has repeatedly said should happen.

Mueller will appear before lawmakers in both public and private sessions later this month.

The subpoenas, which are nearly certain to be authorized by the Democratic-led panel, would require the current and former officials to provide information about the administration's "zero tolerance policy and other family separation policies and practices; detention of children and families; and discussions about or offers of presidential pardons to Department of Homeland Security officials or employees", according to the committee.
