German leader Merkel seen shaking for 3rd time in a month

German leader Merkel seen shaking for 3rd time in a month”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel suffered a new trembling spell on Wednesday, the third time in less than a month, raising questions over her health.

Video footage shows Mrs Merkel trembling, shaking back and forth alongside Finland's prime minister during a ceremony in Berlin.

After the incident, Mrs Merkel said she was "very well" and there was "no need to worry".

Mrs Merkel's body shook visibly as she stood at a military honours ceremony alongside the Finnish prime minister Antti Rinne in Berlin.

Prior to this instance, she appeared unsteady and in distress when meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in mid-June as the national anthems of the two countries blared at an event in Berlin.

Citing government circles, the newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichten said at the time that Merkel's trembling had been triggered by the memory of the previous shaking bout, calling it a "psychological process". "This appears not to be quite finished yet, but I am making progress and will have to live with it for a while".

She was also seen shaking on June 27 when she met German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier but her spokesman said she was fine and she later went ahead with her planned trip to Japan for a G20 summit.

Merkel demurred when asked at Wednesday's news conference whether, given recent concern about her health, she should now take a more head-on approach to the issue. Temperatures were much cooler that day, as they were on Wednesday.

"My comments on this are done today, and I think my statement that I am fine can find acceptance", she said.

The 64-year-old's work ethic and stamina during late-night negotiations has become the stuff of legend since she became chancellor in 2005.
