Microsoft’s Windows 1.11 app is the flawless tie-in for ‘Stranger Things 3’

Microsoft’s Windows 1.11 app is the flawless tie-in for ‘Stranger Things 3’”

Of those record-breaking numbers, roughly half of the 40 million accounts that watched the new season since it's July 4th premiere date have actually stuck through to the finale. And 18.2 million have already finished the entire season.

And here's something else: Using Netflix's 154 million subscriber count from the second quarter, Raymond James analyst Justin Patterson told CNBC Tuesday that the show's record audience numbers imply Season 3 reaching nearly 30% of Netflix's global paid subscriber base.

Spoilers for the end of season three, of course.

The technology giant began teasing a crossover promotion of some nature last week, and then on Monday released a free app that tasks you with helping to save Hawkins, Indiana (and the world) by delving into computer files on what is fashioned to look like a computer screen you might have seen in the mid-80s. First, there was the whole re-opening of the portal to the Upside Down, and there was the fact that the Byers family, along with a now-powerless Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown), were preparing to leave the town altogether.

Ross Duffer chimed in to add: "Assuming there's a season four, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell". We're pretty excited about where it's potentially going to go. The Russians have a Demogorgon (and a mystery American prisoner) in their captivity. In case you weren't aware, the third season of Stranger Things takes place in 1985, which just so happens to be the same year that Microsoft released Windows 1.0. It's just now about filling in those lines in the details. The Duffer brothers are not confirming or denying this theory, but Ross Duffer does reveal to the site that Season 4 (which has not been officially ordered yet) is "going to feel very different than this season".

You can stream all of Stranger Things 3, including the NeverEnding Story duet, on Netflix right now.
