Moment plane engine in U.S. failed caught on camera”

Passengers were praying and even tried to text family members moments before a Delta Air Lines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in North Carolina.

A passenger on a Delta Airlines flight captured insane footage of the seriously damaged engine that sparked an emergency landing and terrified travelers.

Delta confirmed the incident in a statement to Storyful, writing: "The flight crew of Delta flight 1425 from Atlanta to Baltimore elected to divert to Raleigh, North Carolina, after receiving an indication of an issue with one of the aircraft's engines".

Passenger Jack Leonard told ABC 11, "We heard and felt everything".

In a statement, a Delta spokesperson said the crew made a decision to divert the plane "after receiving an indication of an issue with one of the aircraft's engines". "It started slowing down a little bit, it started getting hot (and) air cut off".

Passenger Avery Porch told WMAR-TV that people were very frightened. "I was about to be the first person to jump off".

In 2017, Bloomberg reported that Delta had taken to offering junior pilots fast-track to captain status if they agreed to fly routes using the jet - which Delta is planning to retire by 2020.

Delta provided passengers with a $30 food voucher while they waited to be re-routed on alternative flights. "We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this diversion may have caused".

The MD-88 aircraft landed safely about 2:20 p.m.at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, a spokesperson with the Federal Aviation Administration said.
