National Football League will cover Kendrick Norton's medical costs after arm amputation

National Football League will cover Kendrick Norton's medical costs after arm amputation”

Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton is starting his recovery from a auto accident that led to the amputation of his left arm this week.

NFL officials informed Norton on Tuesday that the league would cover all of his medical bills stemming from the accident, Norton's representatives at First Round Management wrote in an update on his GoFundMe support page. He'll need to continue to lean on the love and support of family and friends - and even the generosity of some strangers along the way.

The accident ends Norton's National Football League career and the focus has turned to getting Norton recovered to resume his life.

The hope is that Norton will eventually be able to get a prosthetic arm.

It has only been five days since the 22-year-old athlete lost his left arm in a crash in Miami-Dade County.

Norton posted a photo of him giving the thumbs up in an Instagram story Monday morning, thanking everyone who has reached out to him. A GoFundMe account started after the accident to help Norton with medical costs had raised more than $6,000 by Tuesday afternoon.

Norton, 22, has been hospitalized since an early-morning July 3 auto accident in which his 2017 Ford F250 reportedly rolled over onto its roof after colliding with a concrete barrier on a Florida expressway. "I'm good thanks for the prayers to God be the glory", Norton posted.

Another driver involved in the crash was not hurt. Norton's agent, Malki Kawa, said Norton's arm had to be amputated. He was a seventh-round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers previous year, and although he signed with the Miami Dolphins in December he hadn't played in a game yet.

Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho said Norton suffered "severe injuries to his left arm".

Norton, who is in stable condition, requires at least two more surgeries to address his injuries.
