This Transforming Smartwatch Can Become A Tablet: Patent”

In its standard smartwatch configuration, you'll only see one of those displays, with the rest stored on the inside of the device.

IBM patent electronic device with multiple display, which allows the use of this special device as smart watches, smartphones and tablets.

The patent shows a rectangular shaped smartwatch that has a thicker than usual casing underneath the display.

As per a report by BGR, IBM has issued a patent for a multi-function smartwatch that's pretty 'ambitious.' This patent was filed three years ago and only just uncovered as per reputed Dutch tech news site, LetsGoDigital, who also prepared colour renders of the device has shared some details of this smartwatch. With everything tallied up, you've got a whopping 8 x 12-inch display mounted on your wrist, complete with yet another interface for its tablet configuration.

The patent was apparently filed way back in 2016 but was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on 11 June under the title of "Variable display size for an electronic display device", and thus was added to the company's extensive catalogue of patents it has its mitts on.

There are four compartments to the device in smartwatch mode with each of the compartments storing a pair of screen tiles.

The watch also has seven additional display compartments. Then you can slide other four-screen parts out of the housing, these are placed next to the first four parts, giving you an extra-wide display. This is the maximum amount of parts that you can attach to it, eight in total.

The bezels around the display are said to be minimal so that there's no interference while viewing a video or an image. "The design automatically changes from smartwatch mode to smartphone mode when four of the display tiles are used with a screen that measures 4" x 6". Each of the aforementioned display parts has a size of 2x3 inches / 5-7.5cm, and that is also the size of this smartwatch's display. The device will have at least one speaker and will work with an optional mouse and physical keyboard. This certainly wouldn't be the company's first rodeo when it comes to smartwatches. In 2000, the brand unveiled a prototype that ran on Linux OS, years before Android Wear OS was even a thing, and well ahead of there being a sizable smartwatch market.
