Australian banks, shops hit by telecom outage

Australian banks, shops hit by telecom outage”

"Our telecommunication provider continues to work to resolve their incident that is impacting our services", the CBA tweeted.

Commonwealth's CommBank and NetBank mobile apps are said to be still in operation, but CBA ATMs, EFTPOS terminals, "some in branch services" and the CommSec website are affected.

According to the ABC, the issue relates to a payment processing network operated by Telstra, which has impacted all banks in some way.

An outage affecting Telstra's enterprise data services has knocked out access to EFTPOS and ATMs in some areas.

The Telstra spokesperson said he would provide updates when the company determined the source of the issue.

The same issue hit St George Bank and Westpac.

ANZ said customers were experiencing EFTPOS issues.

Affected customers have been urged not to contact ComBank's call centre due to the high amount of calls they are receiving.

"We're sorry for any issues caused and will provide an update when we know more". "We are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority".

All of Australia's Big Four banks as well as Woolworths, Caltex and Australia Post have been hit by a major Telstra enterprise service outage that has crippled electronic payments and terminals. If you or your business are experiencing issues, tell us about it in the comments.

- CommBank (@CommBank) July 11, 2019We're aware some branches, ATMs & services in Sydney metro are non-operational due to a broader network failure in the region.

Australia Post has also confirmed that Eftpos and other banking services are now disrupted, blaming a "supplier issue".

'How can we rely on your services when all our cards are declined?

The bank's ATMs are reportedly down in a number of locations around Australia, including in Sydney's CBD. Online banking is working normally. "Rest assured we are urgently looking into this and will have further updates soon".

An ANZ spokesperson has confirmed it is also experiencing outages, suggesting the problem might be "telco-related", while a NAB spokesperson confirmed "sporadic outages" relating to Eftpos but not ATM services in New South Wales and Queensland. Could I please get some answers?
