Former UW star Melvin Gordon may demand trade

Former UW star Melvin Gordon may demand trade”

Unfortunately, a bit of drama has surfaced with word that star running back Melvin Gordon will not report to training camp without realizing his financial dreams.

Gordon is slated to earn $5.6 million in 2019, a team option in the final season of his five-year rookie deal.

Smith told Schefter that he and Gordon didn't want to take a hard-line stance, but because of the lack of progress in negotiations they have made a decision to go public with their displeasure.

"Unless he has a new deal, Chargers' RB Melvin Gordon will not report to training camp, not when he now is scheduled to be heading into the last year of his contract, a fifth-year option, worth $5.6 million dollars", wrote Schefter.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a deal done", Gordon said in June. I would like to go out there and have it done.

"We received an offer - talks had been dead - but we received an offer that wasn't a fair offer based on what Melvin has done, where he was drafted, and how he's performed, making two of the last four Pro Bowls", Bilbo added.

But when he was asked about not playing in 2019 if he didn't get an extension, Gordon didn't dismiss the notion.

Gordon enjoyed a breakout season past year for the Chargers despite missing a quarter of a season with a knee sprain. "When it does, I'm pretty sure you guys will know".

Gordon, the No. 15 overall pick from the 2015 NFL Draft, is a two-time Pro Bowler. He also added 50 catches for 490 receiving yards and another 4 touchdowns through the air.

Gordon had 885 rushing yards on 175 carries for 10 touchdowns last season in 12 starts.
