How Investigative Reporting & Survivor Testimony Toppled Billionaire Serial Abuser Jeffrey Epstein

How Investigative Reporting & Survivor Testimony Toppled Billionaire Serial Abuser Jeffrey Epstein”

"The new sex trafficking charges announced today make it agonizingly clear that former U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta failed to deliver true justice for the underage girls that Jeffrey Epstein mercilessly exploited". The quote is stunning to read today, after Epstein's arrest for the sex trafficking of minors, and an indictment that alleges he repeatedly recruited and abused victims as young as 14 years old.

As for Epstein, Trump - who had once praised the financier as "a terrific guy" - distanced himself from the hedge fund manager now charged with abusing minors, saying the two had had a falling-out 15 or so years ago. I haven't spoken to him in 15 years.

On Capitol Hill, a slew of Democrats called for Acosta's resignation, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who accused him on Twitter of having "engaged in an unconscionable agreement w/ Jeffrey Epstein kept secret from courageous, young victims preventing them from seeking justice". Epstein has pleaded not guilty.

Kaine said on Monday that Acosta "must go" as a result of the "sweetheart deal" he signed off on for Epstein.

Acosta said in a series of tweets Tuesday that the passage of time in this case may be an advantage because more evidence is known and more victims are willing to come forward.

"Now that new evidence and additional testimony is available, the NY prosecution offers an important opportunity to more fully bring him to justice", he said.

Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta, 50, was serving as a federal prosecutor in Florida when his office entered into the controversial plea agreement with financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Meanwhile, President Trump says he'll look closely at the 2007 plea deal, but for now, he's standing by Secretary Acosta. "Acosta must resign, or President Trump should immediately remove him from his post", Frankel said this week.

It's also putting new scrutiny on Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, who, as US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, was involved in a secret plea deal that allowed Epstein to avoid federal charges in 2008. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted of both counts.

"I am calling on Secretary Acosta to resign", Schumer said in a speech on the Senate floor.

Now facing charges of sex trafficking and new accusations of raping underage girls, Acosta has drawn fire.

Houraney was also one of many to accuse Trump of sexual harassment, this time toward his former girlfriend and business partner, Jill Harth, who described an incident in 1997 as an attempted rape by Trump. And, he added, "you're talking about a long time ago".

Acosta was confirmed in the Senate by a vote of 60-38 in April 2017, with all 51 Republicans joined by eight Democrats and one independent in approving his nomination. I wasn't a fan. But in court documents, a Florida lawyer representing several of Epstein's alleged victims contended the Wall Street financier was barred from Mar-a-Lago after an unspecified incident involving a teenage girl. "This was known by @POTUS when he appointed him to the cabinet".

In 1992, the ladies had been reportedly flown in for a "calendar girl" competition that was requested by Trump, The Times stated.

Brown isn't the first journalist to report on the allegations - investigative reporter Vicky Ward said earlier this week that Vanity Fair cut sexual misconduct allegations from a profile she wrote on Epstein in 2002.

Epstein's case highlights the growing problem of sex trafficking in America.

Jennifer Araoz, now 32, told "Today" she never went to police because she feared retribution from the well-connected Epstein.
