Brendan Grace dies at 68

THE RECENT passing of comedian Brendan Grace has been met with "shock" from the locals of Killaloe, his adopted home for a number of years.

Brendan owned the Brendan Grace Pub which was located on Main Street for several years, before closing for business in 2011.

'Brendan passed away most peacefully at the Galway Clinic at 26 minutes past midnight, Thursday 11th July.

'We have lost a very bright star.

He had been in hospital for the last month receiving treatment for pneumonia when it transpired that he was also suffering from cancer.

He added: "We can look back with pride on Brendan's lifetime".

Grace is also familiar to United Kingdom comedy fans thanks to a memorable guest appearance on Father Ted.

Brendan had suffered with poor health but continued to perform and had been due to tour Ireland this summer before being diagnosed with cancer.

Grace got an early break in has career after being spotted performing by Frank Sinatra in Dublin, with the American superstar immediately asking him to support him in London. A year ago he was the subject of a documentary on Irish state broadcaster RTE. His character Bottler was a fan favourite, while his song "Combine Harvester", which was a hit in Ireland in 1975, went on to be covered by The Wurzels in 1976.

Brendan Grace is survived by his wife Eileen, children, grandchildren and extended family.
