HBO Max is WarnerMedia's Netflix-competitor”

Bob Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment and direct-to-consumer, said: "HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform".

WarnerMedia is paying $425 million in total for the rights in a five-year contract starting 2020, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the deal.

The service will offer more than a dozen original shows and movies from stars including Reese Witherspoon and Anna Kendrick, plus programming from AT&T-owned networks such as HBO and TBS and classics from the Warner Bros film and TV library.

LOS ANGELES, United States-US reruns of the popular television sitcom "Friends" will move in 2020 from Netflix Inc to a new streaming service from AT&T Inc's WarnerMedia called HBO Max, WarnerMedia announced on Tuesday. Thanks for the memories, gang'.

So, what exactly is HBO Max? AT&T-owned WarnerMedia, which unveiled its management team in March, also already offers standalone service HBO Now, which costs $15 in the USA and is available from multiple cable operators.

Aside from well-known content, HBO Max will also feature brand new shows, which have been termed Max Originals, and movies. Her co-star, Nicole Kidman, is developing a drama series for the streaming service, too. No price has been set as of yet, but you figure it would cost more than HBO's standalone service, HBO Now, which is currently $15 a month.
