Huawei trademarks a new Harmony mobile operating system”

As Huawei continues to deal with uncertainty over its future U.S. relations and its access to the Android and Windows operating systems, it's been busy working on in-house OS replacements to plug potential gaps - and a new name for them just surfaced.

Chinese tech giant Huawei has filed a trademark application for the word "Harmony", as it could be the worldwide name of its proprietary operating system. Huawei registered this trademark with the EU Office on 12 July.

File this alongside other names we've heard for Huawei's own-brand OS, including Hongmeng and Ark. The application, which is now under examination, was filed Friday last week.

According to Huawei, Android OS and the ecosystem remains the first choice for its smartphone business.

However, HongMeng is likely to be just a codename or a moniker that Huawei would use for Chinese models, while Harmony could be the worldwide name for the operating system.

Huawei has been working on its own operating system for more than a year, and it could be launched as early as 2019. Surprisingly, HongMeng OS is no alternative to Android! The company plans to use the OS to power a lot of devices including routers, switches, and even smart cars. We as a user want the OEMs to deliver us fast updates but, Huawei has just hit the ball out of the park as they are going to reveal the EMUI 10 based on Android Q, next month. A month later, US President Donald Trump revoked the ban, which means Huawei will be able to work with Google and future Huawei and Honor devices can run on Android.
