American Airlines extends Boeing 737 cancellations through November”

United has 14 Max jets while American has 24 of them.

Boeing, meanwhile, is still working on fixes related to its problematic MCAS system, which was meant to help maneuver the jet, but is to blame for the two deadly crashes.

Flight cancellations are expected to affect about 115 flights per day for American Airlines, 150 flights per day for Southwest, and about 5,000 flights for United during the expected grounding.

US airlines and individual nations and companies throughout the world began canceling flights using the Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9 during the spring after Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed on March 10.

Earlier this month, American also became the first USA airline forced to suspend an entire route-its nonstop service between Oakland and Dallas/Ft. Boeing has said the airplane is now undergoing a flight-control software update, one that has yet to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

American Airlines announced on Sunday it will be extending cancellations of the Boeing 737 Max from its flight schedule through November 2 - much longer than expected.

Boeing Co's 737 Max may stay grounded until early 2020, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, months later than the guidance the planemaker is privately providing customers for resolving a software issue that surfaced last month.

United Airlines, which itself operates a total of fourteen 737 MAX planes, also announced this week its continued cancellations of its own flights using said aircraft through November 3. "We are in continuous contact with... regulatory authorities". It said it "remains confident" that the Boeing plane will be recertified this year. He said he could not venture a guess as to when that might occur. And in June, the FAA discovered a new safety problem with the 737 Max, requiring the company to undertake another software fix. The Saudi Arabian budget airline instead chose to purchase Airbus jets.

The airline has frail spare planes to duvet flights that it deliberate to stride with the Max.

Boeing hopes a software upgrade and new pilot training will add layers of protection to prevent erroneous data from triggering a system called MCAS, which was activated in both the planes before they crashed.
