DirecTV Now Just Became AT&T TV Now, Which Isn't Confusing At All

DirecTV Now Just Became AT&T TV Now, Which Isn't Confusing At All”

Because apparently "DirecTV Now" wasn't a enough of a mouthful - never mind the fact that there's also AT&T TV, and AT&T Watch TV - AT&T has made a decision to rebrand the flailing streaming service.

On Tuesday the telecom giant announced that it would be rebranding its struggling streaming service as AT&T TV Now.

Later this summer, AT&T will retire the name of the over-the-top TV service, first launched in December 2016, which will be rebranded "AT&T TV Now".

DirecTV Now lost 83,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2019, including one of our writers who signed up for the service to get a free Apple TV 4K previous year.

Both the AT&T TV and AT&T TV Now services will be accessed through the same AT&T TV app on either mobile devices or connected TVs.

For the DIRECTV NOW app, it will be replaced by an updated AT&T TV app across all app stores, available in the coming weeks. Current DirecTV Now subscribers will "simply need to re-accept the terms of service and their streaming will continue as usual without interruption", with the pricing and channel offerings appearing to carry over from one name to the next.

Now playing: Watch this: Live TV streaming services for cord cutters: How to choose.

This does save you the trouble of downloading yet another app, and it's more consistent with AT&T's strategy.

As he's said previously, Stephenson characterized AT&T TV as the "workhorse" for the company's pay-TV business over the next few years.
